Deck Staining in Mississauga: Are Your Surfaces Protected?
Summertime is definitely a popular season for exterior painting here in Mississauga! We’re completing local project after local project, of all shapes, sizes, and colors.
It’s important, however, to not neglect your deck. It’s an easy surface to overlook, as it doesn’t quite beg for attention as loudly as paint. You can just “get to it next year…” right?
The truth is, the longer you wait and leave your wood surfaces unprotected, the larger-scale the remediation process will be. The most cost-effective (and visually attractive!) maintenance approach is to knowledgeably and routinely care for your outdoor space.
Not quite sure what this looks like? That’s what we’re here for!
How Often Should You Stain and Seal Your Deck?
We recommend addressing the condition of your stain and sealer every two years. As we mentioned above, this proactive approach will ultimately protect your surfaces and budget much more effectively.
Your deck stain is more than a pretty face, after all. It’s the first line of defense against a number of threats, including UV damage, dirt, moss, mildew, algae, rot, insects, and more. Leaving your wood surfaces exposed like that is a risk you just don’t want to take.
What Does Our Deck Staining and Sealing Approach Include?
Here at Mississauga Painters, we believe in doing the process right. Cutting corners doesn’t benefit anyone, and the increased initial expense will ALWAYS pay you back (and then some!) in long-term value.
- First, we pressure the surface to thoroughly remove dirt, flaking sealer, moss, mildew, and algae. This requires a skillful hand, and just the right level of pressure to effectively clean without damaging the wood.
- Depending on the condition, we will thoroughly prep/repair as needed. This is determined on a case-by-case basis, and we’ll go over it all with you to discuss the why and how behind our approach.
- We then apply Deckscapes products from Sherwin-Williams. This is a proven, tested choice, and one we have faithfully used for over 10 years. The finish quality is beautiful, and the level of longevity and protection is superb.
- The Deckscape product will be rolled and brushed into place. Many contractors use sprayers to save time, but the level of penetration into the surface of the wood just isn’t the same. For the best results, it needs to be manually applied. Otherwise it just sits on the surface, looking fine for a while but certainly not performing as it should.
The rest is up to you! Enjoy your beautiful, protected outdoor living space, and the value it offers both your family and your home.
And remember: in two years you should have us back to inspect and maintain the finish, offering a superior level of ongoing protection and peace of mind.
